Yeah, but he's looking for the underlying script, not a site that does it.

This can be done with PHP and MySQL. I won't get into details (as I am making my own service :P )
But, basically you need a page that redirects to the URL, a database that holds the real URL name along with the code (ex: 4c6Xy3) that redirects.

It's very simple. Just requires some thinking.

Although like Sam says, it would be very easy to develop, you wouldnt even have to have a database if you cba (although it would be more efficient). Before ne1 argues with that comment you could use a Meta Refresh within a real unique directory assigned to a URL
